A LITTLE HELP GOES A LONG WAY

Let’s get your
home mapped.

A few simple steps to get started, and answers for when things don’t go quite as expected.

Start with your panel.

Create a property and choose the number of positions in your panel. Names are optional: BreakerMap uses “My Home” and “Main Panel” if you leave them blank. You can edit the names later and add more panels or properties in Settings.

Find an outlet’s breaker.

1. Plug your iPhone into the outlet. Use a compatible wired charger plugged directly into the outlet, without a battery pack or backup power source.
2. Open Breaker Finder. Choose the kind of item you’re mapping. Add a name, room, or photo if you want; a blank name becomes something useful, like “Kitchen Outlet.”
3. Check the alert. Preview the sound and check that you can hear it from your panel. Your media volume and connected audio devices affect where and how loudly it plays.
4. Start the test. Leave BreakerMap open and your phone unlocked. Switch breakers one at a time using the external handles. Consider what else each breaker may power before switching it.
5. Listen, restore, and save. When the iPhone loses charging power, BreakerMap sounds an alert. Restore power, select the breaker you switched, and save the outlet to your map.

If the alert doesn’t sound

• Preview the alert, turn up media volume, and check whether audio is going to headphones or a Bluetooth device.
• Make sure the app shows that power is detected before you start the test.
• Use a wired charger directly connected to the outlet. Battery packs, UPS units, and accessories with backup power can hide a power loss.
• Keep the app visible and the phone unlocked. Leaving the app, locking the phone, or an audio interruption pauses an active test; reconnect power and start a fresh test.

Make your map your own.

Tap a breaker to add outlets, lights, or appliances manually. Add photos and notes that help you recognize the right location. Use Search to find a device, a room, or a breaker number. The room menu lets you filter without scrolling sideways.

To dismiss a keyboard, tap outside the text field. Panel map and By room offer two ways to browse the same saved information.

Print, share, and keep a copy.

Choose Export Panel PDF in Settings, or use the export option on your panel, to create a printable directory. View an example PDF.

Export Data creates a JSON archive of your properties, panels, items, photos, and saved tests. Keep your iPhone backed up. Importing that archive and syncing across devices aren’t available in this version.

About this website’s sample panel

The interactive panel on the home page uses example circuits. It demonstrates how searching, room filters, and circuit details work; it does not connect to or control electrical equipment and doesn’t save a real home’s data.
